Why are the star marked notes issued?
The RBI said in a statement that a star mark has been added to the number panel on the note to be issued in place of the wrongly printed note. Notes with a star mark are issued in lieu of wrongly printed notes in a bundle of serial-numbered notes.
Star-marked notes are valid
The central bank has given this clarification after apprehensions were expressed in some social media posts about the validity of the notes having star marks in their number panels.
RBI gave information
RBI has said that the banknote with the star mark is like any other valid note. Its star mark simply indicates that it has been issued in place of a changed or reprinted note. This star mark is placed between the number of the note and the letters to be entered before it.
Time till 30 September
The RBI governor said that anyone who has a Rs 2,000 note can deposit it in his bank account or can exchange it with any other note in the bank. Banks have been advised to make necessary arrangements to exchange Rs 2,000 notes. “We expect most of the Rs 2,000 notes to be returned by the September 30 deadline,” he said.
